Paid Mentors?

The idea of paying for mentoring is entirely acceptable amongst business people and entrepreneurs. In fact, it's a necessity!

Professional mentoring is different to the workplace mentoring where the emphasis is on the process of guiding, through conversations that  create insight and only occasionally offering wisdom based on experience. Instead, an expert in a particular field is engaged for a fee. They provide direction based on a thorough understanding of where the mentoree is, where they want to be and how to get there. He or she gives specific advice, shares their know-how and helps the mentoree to develop skills and techniques.

I have used several professional mentors. One, Gihan Perera has contributed to my strategic planning, development and use of the internet for many years. For example, the webinars and slidecast videos  and my free e-course, that people enjoy around the world are all products of our mentoring relationship.

In his recent blog post, Gihan Perera describes The Value of Mentoring. He lists important actions to get the most from mentoring that apply whether you are paying or being mentored for free. I recommend you take a look.
